Our focus
SAFEWATER is focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6: ‘Ensure access to water and sanitation for all’ and cross cuts against several other SDGs, for example:
It is the poor that suffer from lack of clean drinking water.
(SDG 1 ‘No Poverty’)
The lack of clean water has clear implications for health.
(SDG 3 Good ‘Health and Wellbeing’)
It is mainly females who are responsible for water collection.
(SDG 5 ‘Gender Equality’)
In 2010, the UN General Assembly explicitly recognised the human right to water and sanitation. Everyone has the right to sufficient, continuous, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic use.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals we aim to:
- Develop technologies which help to reduce incidence of waterborne diseases.
- Supply safe drinking water aiming to improve the quality of life for families, assist in the reduction in gender pressure and increase economic development in the target rural areas.
- Develop a strong network of experts in low-cost technologies for safe drinking water.
- Assist with pro-poor growth in developing regions based on social economy exploitation for low-cost water technologies.
- Develop a framework for transdisciplinary research to address challenges in developing regions.
