Margarita Hincapié is Professor at the University of Medellin (Colombia), with main contribution to the Doctorate in Engineering and to the Environmental Engineering programs. Her research focuses on the application of advanced oxidation technologies for the chemical and microbiological decontamination of water, including solar water treatment using photocatalysis and photo-Fenton. Margarita has been involved in research projects to improve the water quality of the Colombian local communities.

Margarita’s role in the SAFEWATER project is co-investigator and member of the Executive Group. Margarita is leader of the University de Medellin project team. She will contribute to the scientific research relating to the development of low cost water disinfection technologies, and in the implementation, training and dissemination of these technologies in communities of Antioquia, Colombia.

Name:  Professor Laila Galeano Botero

Laila Galeano is a Chemical Engineer and PhD in Engineering has worked in research areas such as water and air decontamination, development and characterization of new nanostructured materials with environmental applications. She has been a professor in the areas of Chemical Engineering, Public Health and Environmental Engineering, particularly in Chemistry, Reactor Design, Solid Management, Diagnosis and Water Treatment. Her work has focused on the application of Advanced Oxidation Technologies and the development of new materials for the decontamination of liquid and gaseous media.

Laila’s role in the SAFEWATER Project is co-researcher at the University of Medellín (Colombia), in the development of low-cost water disinfection technologies.
