Fermin Reygadas is Co-Founder and CEO of Cantaro Azul, an organization based in Mexico that develops safe water solutions. Fermin has a PhD from the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. During his graduate studies, Fermin collaborated with students and researchers to develop the first ultraviolet water disinfection system designed specifically for rural households. Since 2006, Fermin has led the design of innovative treatment systems, habit formation strategies, service delivery models, financing mechanisms, assessment tools, and public policies that contribute to expanding the human right to water in rural communities. His work has been recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the Big Ideas Competition at Berkeley, the 6th World Water Forum, and the UBS-Visionaris Social Entrepreneurship Award. Fermin is an Ashoka fellow and a member of Boehringer Ingelheim’s “Making More Health Global Initiative”, Tecnologico de Monterrey’s “Public Entrepreneurs Society”, and Mexico’s “Water Consultation Council”.

Ane Galdos Balzategui is the leader of the Knowledge Management unit in Cantaro Azul, an organization based in Mexico that develops safe water solutions. She holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Spain and an MSc in Public Health from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Spain. In her Master thesis she assessed the health impact of tap water consumption in San Cristobal de Las Casas, México. She is interested in exploring the human health effects of a number of environmental exposures from a multidisciplinary approach and using epidemiological methods, health impact assessments and participatory research. Currently, her work is focused on the creation and dissemination of knowledge, based on needs identified in practice, which contribute to solutions that guarantee the human right to access to water in rural communities.
